Airbrush vs Traditional makeup

February 11, 2008

At the International Digital Film Forum (IDIFF) DoP Geoff Boyle conducted numerous tests with technologies most sophisticated cameras in the HD world; they tested just about everything- including makeup! The cameras:

  •  Arri D20
  • HPX3000
  • Viper Filmstream
  • Sony F23
3 different models were tested under various lighting conditions with airbrush makeup, traditional makeup, and no makeup. With professional makeup artists applying the cosmetics and seasoned cinematographers mimicking common lighting schemes it was the perfect setup to test Airbrush vs Traditional makeup.

After testing multiple cameras, with multiple monitor setups and using both hard lighting and soft lighting DoP Geoff Boyle said this: “The differences were huge, the conventional makeup very visible when the models moved their heads and the backlight caught it. The airbrushed makeup was smooth and subtle, you’d have said they had no makeup but they loooked too good for that!? In order of preference, shot with 100mm master prime, D-20 and monitored with a Cinetal we decided Airbrush was best, none second and conventional makeup a very firm last place. This was a very harsh test of sking and what seemed to happen was that conventional makeup caught in any imperfections in the skin and amplified them! We only tested the silicon based airbrush but you can get water and alcohol bases for other purposes.”

Gucci Westman uses Temptu

February 11, 2008

When celebrity makeup artist Gucci Westman needed the most perfect, vivid color to achieve the dynamic

eyes for Behnaz Sarafpour’s look, she knew exactly whom to call. Gucci requested Temptu airbrush makeup

to get the perfect bright yellow eye shadow – from lid to lash – that would help bring Sarafpour’s Fall 2008

collection to life. Temptu sent airbrush makeup pro Jenai Chin to assist Gucci in applying this intense beauty

look, and Gucci “couldn’t thank [us] enough” for our “support and generosity.”

“It’s a fun season to be bold and get your rocks off as an artist. It’s all about enjoying color, textures, and

freedom of expression,” says Westman. We couldn’t agree more. And we were thrilled to help Gucci achieve the brightly colored eyes – a major

trend for the season – on the runway.

A nifty tote getting some attention!

February 6, 2008

When it came to Benjamin Cho’s fashion show 2008 Temptu was asked to help create this years designer tote. We were supplied with original artwork by the extremely talented Dan Colen, a rather slick new logo from Ben’s team and then smacked our own little design on it to make this years coolest runway giveaway!

Style.com and People.com both featured the bags on their websites!

Benjamin Cho Fashion Show 2008

February 5, 2008

Temptu was proud to collaborate with New York fashion designer Benjamin Cho for his Fall 2008 Collection.

Temptu teamed up with Cho to create a limited edition temporary tattoo transfer featuring the art of downtown

art sensation Dan Colen. Top models Patricia Schmid and Milagros Schmoll wore the limited edition body makeup

full sleeve “look” made of red lipstick kisses.

With a long history of collaborating with the world’s foremost artists to create top of the line body art – from

Matthew Barney to KiKi Smith – as well as a rich history of designing makeup looks for New York Fashion Week,

Temptu embraced this intersection of art and fashion as a natural fit.

Chelsea’s Altman Building was filled with art world stars, It Girls and Boys, and top fashion press from far and wide,

ambient band Growing played the soundtrack live, and the excitement was heady in anticipation of the show.

Cho did not disappoint – as always, his clothes were thrilling, imaginative, and beautiful to behold. Temptu was

honored to be included in his vision.

Sure to be a coveted insider item, Temptu created limited edition tote bags featuring the Dan Colen for Temptu

body art exclusively for the Fall 08 fashion show. Chloe Sevigny held hers tight, and Style.com featured the bag

while instructing attendees to get to their seats on time or risk losing this hot, hipster must-have.

IMATS London 2008

February 4, 2008

imats.jpg

The International Make-up Artist Trade Show brings together make-up

artists from all over the world in a weekend dedicated to education in

a constantly evolving industry.  Artists from every area of the

business – film, television, fashion and editorial – get together to

share their thoughts and experiences, catch up with old friends and

check out new products and techniques.  Temptu has had a presence at

IMATS since it’s first UK show seven years ago and this year the stand

was a hive of activity as usual.

Certainly one of the reasons were the new lines currently available

from Temptu that were being demonstrated constantly on the stand

including the Dura Pro Palettes, the new lines in Professional Tattoo

Transfers and the SB Airbrow Kit.  Among those who dropped by to take

in the new products were UK prosthetics experts and BAFTA Award

Winners Neill Gorton (From Hell, The League of Extraordinary

Gentlemen, Doctor Who) and Nick Dudman (Harry Potter, Batman Begins,

The Fifth Element) both of whom left with a selection of the Dura Pro Palettes.

One of the great things about IMATS is the mix of nationalities

present at the show with artists from as far afield as Iceland,

Sweden, Spain,  Malta and Japan all stopping by to purchase goods and

check out new lines.  It was a delight to see once again  British

prosthetics team Aaron & Marilyn Sherman (De-Lovely, French &

Saunders) and introduce them to a  selection of the Temptu range.

Scottish Television make-up artist Cicely Connelly (Holby City,

NY-LON) was very keen to check out the new range of Pro-Tattoo

Transfers and Australian born Fashion and Editorial hair and make-up

artist Terry Wilson couldn’t wait to try out the Airbrow Kit.  Eileen

Kastner Delago (Sleuth, Alfie) also took time out of her busy schedule

to make sure visit our stand and chat to Michael Benjamin and discuss

how she might be able to work with Temptu on future projects.
